I'm building what I wished existed
I've been in data for a while now. Data engineering, analytics engineering, analytics itself. I've led decently sized data teams. And through all of it, I kept running into the same frustrations.
BI tools just don't fit how developers work. There's no Git, no version control. You can't work locally or use your own editor. You're stuck in some slow web UI while your teammates use Claude Code and ship features in minutes. And there's this constant divide where tools are either built for business users who can't code, or for engineers who have to fight the tool to get anything done.
I wanted something Git-native from day one, something local-first where I own my files and can work offline. Something that feels like Zed or VS Code instead of software from 2010.
So I started building it.
Thelix is for developers who own analytics, analytics engineers, and small data teams at startups who want to move fast.
I'm starting with dashboards, but I'd like to go further and build an integrated tool for diverse data work. dbt showed that developers want real workflows for data. I want to bring that same idea to the rest of the stack.
Two things I won't compromise on:
- Source available. You can always self-host and see the code.
- Developer experience. I'm not going to water this down for enterprise buyers.
I want people to feel in control when they use Thelix. Control over your work, your data, your workflow. And maybe even enjoy using it.
